Online Marketing Case Study: Paddle Diva (Part 2)

Jun 22, 2015 By Melissa Cahill

Part 2: Winter 2011/2012

Developing a Long Term Strategy

Seeing the power of SEO to drive traffic and sales, Bradley continued working with Panoptic to develop an integrated marketing plan for Paddle Diva. We helped her understand that building a robust and sustainable online presence means delivering something of value to your audience —and speaking from the heart, with an authentic voice. The website had some basic, built-in blogging functionality (which was eventually moved to a separate WordPress platform), and Bradley herself had already established profiles for her business on the major social networks. But she wasn’t sure how to grow her following, especially during the off-season when no one in the Northeast would be paddling or interested in reading about water sports. [Read more…]

Case Study: Small Law Firms and Solo Law Practices

Oct 9, 2014 By Melissa Cahill

Client: Andrew Abramowitz, PLLC

The Challenge:

Our client, Andrew Abramowitz, is the founder of a small law practice in New York City. Needless to say, he’s got a lot of competition! New York is jam packed with lawyers — how do you distinguish yourself among so many other small business attorneys?

Solo Law Practice and Small Law Firm MarketingSolo law practitioners and small law firms rarely have the internal resources to devote to marketing activities. For the most part, these attorneys have a standard brochure website comprised of attorney bios, practice area descriptions, and perhaps a list of books or articles published by the partners; static, uninteresting content that doesn’t give the reader much insight into an attorney’s personality and style, or demonstrate what he or she actually does for their clients.

Andrew is a corporate and securities transactional lawyer who had such a website: a simple four-page site with his basic bio, practice description and contact information. We met with him, talked about his experience and goals for his business, and we discovered two things: (1) Andrew has special expertise in working with private placement investors (on both the buying and selling side), and (2) Andrew has been carefully following the legal and regulatory developments surrounding the American JOBS Act and how it is giving rise to a new model of business financing known as “crowdfunding.” [Read more…]

Confused About Optimizing Blog Posts? Relax and Stick with the Basics.

Apr 23, 2014 By Melissa Cahill

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

Whenever I attend my local WordPress Meetup, I run into people who ask me about optimizing blog posts. They run the spectrum from those that obsess about keyword density to those who do nothing because they think “blogs are naturally search-engine friendly.” Let’s begin this post by first dispelling that myth. WordPress Workshops at SATW 2013 Conference

Oct 28, 2013 By Melissa Cahill

Panoptic’s Melissa Cahill joined up with her colleague Andy Christian of the Tadpole Collective for four fun-filled days on the Mississippi Gulf Coast last week, offering WordPress Workshops to attendees of the Society of American Travel Writers 2013 Conference.

The Conference brought together travel writers, resort property managers, regional travel promoters — all sorts of folks — many of whom run their own websites and blogs, who were interested in learning how to leverage the power of WordPress. From the feedback we received, workshop participants left feeling more empowered and enthusiastic about ramping up their online marketing activities!

While the half-day sessions were limited strictly to WordPress, the full-day course included a section on SEO, specifically around how to use the Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin to make those tasks easier — and to learn to become a better SEO writer.

Mobile websites… so much to learn.

Feb 20, 2012 By Melissa Cahill

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

We always advocate using WordPress for websites, and the ability to create a mobile version of you site is one of the main reasons.  It’s as easy as installing and activating one of the many plugins available for this purpose.  And Panoptic’s developers have been moving more and more to what they call “responsive themes” — that is, themes that work across a variety of mobile platforms without having to use plugins.

WPNYCBut tomorrow night we’re going to be checking out CBS Local, who is going a totally different route.  What’s it all about?  We’ll know soon, thanks to the good people in our WP NYC Community MeetUp Group!  Stay tuned…

Online Marketing Considerations for Small Business Owners, Part 4: Should You Be Blogging?

Mar 25, 2011 By Melissa Cahill

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

So you thought you were done when you launched your business website, but now you wonder if you need a blog.  Do you?

While it can be challenging to come up with fresh content to publish on a blog each week, there are compelling reasons for  small business owners to consider blogging as an integral part of any online marketing campaign.

seo for small businesss owners | Panoptic Online Marketing | NYCReason #1: a business blog, when updated regularly, will drive more traffic to your site, and more traffic means more potential customers hearing your message.  A blog can boost your site’s rankings in search results because search engines favor sites that publish fresh content regularly.  Even if you have a website, it may be cumbersome to update (or you may have to pay a webmaster to do it for you).  A blog makes it easy to publish content with no special technical skills or software (and has a low set-up cost).
